3 months cable clean
think i’ve permanently kicked the habit, though this is not saying i’ve found the perfect setup, at least not yet.  until something new comes out or something changes with way live sports are broadcasted, i won’t have easy access to live sports (read: NBA).  but i’m getting closer and here’s how: antenna. yes, the mere idea was deplorably offensive to me as well!...

au revoir cable tv, part deux
It’s been exactly a month since we’ve cut loose from time warner cable and by no means are we going back… Some tweaks: Moved cable box and router closer to tv and connected roku directly to box.  I did try streaming wirelessly and though it did run fairly smoothly, why not maximize what you have (10mbps download) and connect via ethernet cable if you can. Subscribed to hulu...

cutting the cord: goodbye cable tv
The thought of disengaging myself from traditional cable started sometime last year though nothing really happened until now only because I was worried I wouldn’t find a suitable replacement.  After weighing everything and the lovely fact that time warner cable is evil… i’ve cut the cord. Roku vs. AppleTV On paper it was so easy to see the roku would be the best fit, but my...

Bookman bicycle lights
I saw these very minimally designed bike lights online.  Maybe I got them because they nostalgically remind me of Lego blocks.  Was hesitant to get them since they looked very small and wasn’t sure how much light they would be able to produce.  But since they are LEDs, that should make me spottable on the road and I don’t plan to use the lights to shine my way on a very dark desolate...

Linus Sac
I’ve been eyeing linus’ the sac for some time now but the last 2 times I’ve visited their show room on abbot kinney they’ve been sold out.  My sister picked one up for me at her new fav bike shop, A Street Bike Named Desire in Palo Alto.  I went with the sand and red bag.  It’s stylish but also stands out.   The bag attaches easily to your rear rack with 2...

Love Padlocks
While in Sevilla I noticed padlocks on the Isabel II bridge over the Guadalquivir river. The padlocks had names, initials, or maybe a message written in sharpie. Standing on the bridge, looking at the water; I felt pleasantly happy.  I was imagining all these people in love visiting the bridge and standing in the same spot I was. Thinking it was cute and with only an idea of what this was all...

perfect fit
I’ve been back from Spain a couple of weeks now and before i dive into a post about the amazing trip that I had, just have to say how well my patagonia bag worked out for me.  I honestly had doubts if it was going to fit 2 weeks worth of clothes.  But it did just that, no creative folding (rolling, clothes in shoes) needed.  Plus I was able to pack even more things into it during the trip. ...

patagonia mlc unzipped!
Always wanting to try something new, I will be using only one carry-on bag for a 2 week vacation. I’ve always felt I packed too much and lugged unnecessary suitcases for trips (short and long).  With only a carry on you eliminate airline baggage fees and lost luggage, plus more freedom to hop on and off of trains.  After some obsessive research and analyzing reviews, I chose the Patagonia...

busy busy summer
The last few months have been full and busy - but only with good and happy things. From bachelorette party madness (best vegas trip ever), graduations, niece’s baptism, wedding in palm springs, quick weekend visits from friends and nocagirl, concerts, birthday celebrations, and engagement parties… summer seems to be the time when we’re the most socially active. I immediately...

Hearst Castle
A couple of weekends ago we did a little road tripping through the central coast or as we like to call it: “Adventure Time!” (still deliberating on a theme song).  The Hearst Castle was the main attraction, but I definitely enjoyed the beauco-licness of the surrounding area from the cute surfer beach towns to the endless rolling mountains dotted with happy cows. Nestled atop of the...

fenderized
I feel it might be proper or appropriate to say that I’ve single handedly fenderized my linus mixte with Velo Orange aluminum fluted 700c’s.  It took me a lot longer (1 weekend night and 3 weekday evenings) than i thought it would, but that’s basically because I had no idea what I was doing and I didn’t have the right tools at the get go, so I had to wait before i could...

Bulb fail and fenders
After dissecting all the light bulbs from the three headlights, I went to Home Depot to find replacements since all of them looked old or totally burnt out. Each bulb had a specific voltage and unfortunately none of them matched what Home Depot offered.  Bulb fail!  I’ll have to look online, but wondering if I can’t easily find it in stores, should I do some type of LED mod like...

I think i finally understand all these bumper stickers that i see from time to time: Went to Tahoe and played in the snow with a couple of my best friends from high school. The air was crisp and when the wind blew it numbed anything that was exposed: nose, cheeks, hands, and I’m sure hair would be included if it were to have nerves. We drove up to the lake and it was beautiful.  The sun...

fiver
The best $5.00 bike accessory just came in the mail today.  The most functional suspender with hooks-looking device.  I ordered the Two-Strip Bungee Strap from Public Bikes .  The bungee is thick and feels really strong and sturdy.  I was able to secure a couple of things and happy with how well I was able to strap on my helmet on the rear rack of my Linus. The bungee is good for securing...

Vintage Headlights
Looking at vintage french 1940’s and 1950’s french randonneurs has made me want to turn my newish Linus Mixte more vintage like these aluminum bicycles: Couple of things i’m drawn to are the silver fenders, bullet headlights, and front & rear racks.  Recently, I won an auction on ebay that had some nice headlights, rear light, and soubitez dynamos.  I don’t really...

the PoGo came!
Something fun for me to open when i got home: It doesn’t print from my Nikon D40, which makes sense because it’s supposed to be a more professional camera rather than something you can print from.  So i dug up my Canon SD630 - my trusty pocket point and shoot.  I was printing in minutes.  By the way, the blue card spits out when you put a whole pack of Zink, zero ink, paper in....

something cute from thenimbusfactory.com
A friend who is an awesome artist/illustrator created a company with other fellow creative artists/illustrators/designers - www.thenimbusfactory.com I saw these cards, which literally made me melt the the cuteness of it all.  I mean come on: the little animals are holding little itty bitty cards! Plus who doesn’t love unique individualized envelopes? :)

Pogo... Who wouldn't want a POGO! (polaroid)
It could be the boredom of work or thinking about an upcoming trip to Japan that seduced me to purchase a refurbished Polaroid Pogo from Overstock.com, Zink ink paper and Moleskine Japanese album notebooks from Amazon on a whim.  What’s special about the “Japanese” type Moleskine is that the pages open up like an accordion.  So you stretch them out/fold them up and gives you a...

Polaroid installation
On this rainy Sunday (btw carwash fail, just took zippy to one yesterday…) I decided to finally hang/display my polaroids somehow instead of letting them sit in an envelope, in a drawer somewhere.   A long time ago someone on craigslist gave me literally bags of empty polaroid 600 cartridges. I cannot claim to have created the idea of using them as holders or frames for my pictures…...

yay, extended bike rides to ensue
Thanks to my brother D. , he sent me an early birthday gift! Now i can lock up my Linus to go the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market, go to the bookstore, actually a multitude of things that i could potentially do requiring me to leave my bike unattended.  :)
